Legacy

by aurora north

I come from Earth and water
I come from the elements
I come from Spirit

my spirit that comes from Spirit
from the spirits of my ancestors

from the mothers of mothers
from a long lineage of strong women
who worked the land
who worked hard in life
sweat on their brows
dirt on their hands
toiling ever toiling

we were once one with the Earth
We were once one with the water
we carried the elements within us
we ate and drank the fruits
we drank in all the needed waters

once we swam out
from the waters
once we walked out
onto the sturdy Earth

It is our heritage
it was our legacy

and we were honoured
we were honoured for our strength
we were honoured for our wisdom
we were honoured for the cycle of life
that we carried ever forward

I honour those ancestors
I honour those women
I honour she who once was
I honour her stories passed on
I honour her service
to the women to come after

my ancestors
your ancestors
blood of the blood
the blood in our veins
the blood of our moon cycles
the blood of their sacrifice

I am the blood of the blood of the blood
carried by my mother and her mother
I am my great grandmother’s seed and voice
she who lent me her name
she who lent me her early morning light

my great grandmother
who still watches over me
guiding me, leaving me
a trail of swan feathers

to remind me of my beauty
to remind me of my many transformations
to remind me of my grace
to remind me of all things
when I forget my inner majesty
when I forget my own divinity
when I forget that I too come from Source
when I forget that I was created
by our Mother and Father God

I come from comforting Earth and soil
I come from quenching hydrating water

this is my gift from my ancestors
who still smile at me
during my journey
through the cycles of life and death

and I am forever blessed.
